Most high-bay lighting is chosen from a photometric file and never looked at again. Meteor builds the ones people look at.

Founded in Industry, California in 2008, Meteor works the awkward middle of the market: fixtures with the output an engineer needs and a form a designer will accept. On our card it earns its place in the tall rooms. Atria, transit, industrial, anywhere a ceiling is too high for a decorative answer and too visible for an ugly one. You won’t win those rooms with a photometric file alone.

The unspoken question about any name you have not specified before is what happens in year six, when a driver fails in a fixture forty feet up. It is a fair question and it is not really about the manufacturer. A warranty replaces the part; it does not pay for the lift, the crew or the closed aisle, and that arithmetic is what makes an unfamiliar line expensive long after the invoice is settled. So the thing worth establishing before a new name goes on a schedule is not the warranty length. It is who holds stock on this continent, who answers the phone in five years, and whether the driver is a standard part or a proprietary one. Those are questions we would rather answer at specification than at failure.

WHIZ 2.0 – Architectural High Ceiling Luminaire

The high bay we reach for first. High output, colour-changing options, an uplight component and outdoor-rated versions, in a housing that survives being seen from the floor.

REIZEN – Indirect Asymmetric Luminaire 

An indirect asymmetric luminaire, in sconce and pendant forms. It throws light sideways onto a surface rather than down, which is what you want when the ceiling is doing the work and nobody should see the source. Prismatic optics, output up to 40,850 lumens from a single fixture, which is what lets one of them cover a bay that would otherwise take three, and a build rated for outdoors and for pool halls, where the air eats ordinary fixtures.

ATRIA – Architectural High-Performance Cylinders

Architectural cylinders, and the workhorse of the range. They come in 4, 6 and 10-inch apertures and run from 1,300 to 25,000 lumens, which means the same family of fixture covers a lounge ceiling and a four-storey atrium without changing the look of the room.

REV – Architectural High-Performance Downlights

Recessed downlights at 4, 6 and 8 inches, with a deep double reflector that sets the source well back up the housing. Warm-dim, tunable white and colour-changing options, so a room that has to work for a conference at ten and a reception at seven does it on one set of fixtures.

DUO – Elegant Up and Down Luminaire  

Direct/indirect pendants at 4 and 6 inches. The up component is the point: it lights the ceiling you paid an architect to draw. Power runs down the suspension cable itself, which is why the pendant hangs on a cable and not on a cable plus a conduit you spend the meeting trying to hide.

The way a high-bay selection usually goes wrong is that it is made on lumens. Output is the easiest number to compare and the least predictive in a tall room, because what reaches the floor depends on the optic and the mounting height, not on the total the fixture produces. Two fixtures with the same lumen package and different distributions light entirely different rooms: one puts a usable, even field on the floor, the other puts most of it on the walls and a glare source in the eyeline of anyone who looks up. In a room that tall the correction is scaffolding, so it is the selection to slow down over.
