Task lighting is where most manufacturers stop paying attention. Koncept built a company on it. They started in 2002 making LED desk lamps, and the Z-Bar that came out of that is still the shape everything else grew from.

The reason it works overhead is the reason it worked on a desk. It puts light on the thing somebody is doing, and not much anywhere else. Here are two of theirs we specify most.

Z-Bar Pendant

The Z-Bar Pendant is the desk lamp hung from the ceiling. Each fixture is a set of jointed light bars, so a run can step down over a boardroom table, turn a corner along a bar, or drop straight to one desk.

Where the light actually goes

Every bar in a configuration rotates a full 360° on its own, which means the aim gets set in the room rather than on the drawing. Move the table six months later and it’s a minute’s work to re-aim.

Built from parts

The pendants stack in layers, and that’s where they earn their place. Run one layer down onto the table for the work, and a second above it aimed at the ceiling for the light people actually feel. One fixture, two jobs, no second circuit.

Gravy wall sconce

Gravy is a disc on a wall, and it swings. The head rotates so the same sconce reads as a reading light beside a bed, an uplight in a corridor, or a wash on the wall behind it. Nothing about it announces which one you chose.

Unexpected Combinations

It comes in felt, wood veneer, chrome and painted finishes, which is what lets it sit in a lobby and a bedroom without looking like the same product twice. See the full range on their line card page.
