Most architectural lighting specified in Canada is drawn here and built somewhere else, and the schedule is where you feel it. Edison Lighting is Canadian at both ends, designed and made here, and the payoff lands on the delivery date rather than in the photograph. On a fit-up that has already slipped twice, that’s frequently the deciding argument.

The range is broader than the story usually is for a domestic manufacturer, which is the second reason we specify it.

What they make

Classic: recessed and downlights

The workhorses. Nothing here is trying to be seen, which is the correct ambition for a downlight.

Acoustic: eco and wool felt

Felt baffles and pendants that take some of the hard edge off a room while they light it. Worth asking for the swatches before you commit to a colour, because a warm 3000K lamp pulls the colour of felt several shades off what you picked in a swatch book by a window, which means the cool grey you chose can land beige on site.

Architectural shapes

Rings, squares and geometry for the rooms where the fixture is meant to be the thing you notice on the way in.

Linear extrusions

Runs, joints and corners. The useful question with any linear line is what happens at the joint and at the end of the run, and this one answers it.

Modern: pendants and surface

Where the ceiling is concrete or the plenum is full, surface and pendant mounting stop being a style decision. Good to have both from one supplier on one purchase order.
